NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finally culminates the 2026 season at its biggest meet of the season this week, going for glory on Thursday to Saturday at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
The meet will be hosted by conference rival Stephen F. Austin at Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches. The Islanders will first get into action on Thursday at 10 a.m. before then returning at the same time on Friday and 11 a.m. for the final day on Saturday.
A&M-Corpus Christi will be looking to improve on a nice showing at the SLC Indoor Championships back in February, when both the men and the women scored fifth place finishes overall with 60 and 78 team points respectively. The team also took home 10 individual medals and six golds, which went to
Kye Lowth in the men's 5000m,
Emmanuel Ekuma in the men's shot put,
Cyan Green in the women's weight throw,
Elizabeth Khatevi in the women's mile and 3000m, and the team of Khatevi,
Neele Heyne,
Annukka Willstedt and
Embla Hreimsdottir in the women's distance medley relay.
As for last year's Outdoor Championships, the Islanders finished in ninth on the men's side and fourth on the women's, the latter matching their best-ever finish in program history. The individual victories in 2025 went to
Philip Jensen e Castro in the men's 800m and Khatevi in three different events, as she took home the wins in the 800m, the 1500m and the 5000m in an incredible effort on the last day of the meet that earned her the Women's Most Valuable Performer and Freshman of the Year Awards.
The live results for the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships will be available to follow along as they happen, and the final two days of the meet can be watched live on ESPN+ starting at 5 p.m. on both.
