DALLAS – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track and field team competes at its last meet of the 2026 regular season this weekend, heading to Dallas to take part in the SMU Invitational on Friday and Saturday in its final tune-up before the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships in two weeks.
The Islanders kick things off at 4 p.m. on Friday for a trio of different throwing field events on the men's and women's sides, which leads into the start of the track events at 6:30. They then return for the finale on Saturday, starting with the men's javelin at 8:30 a.m. and running all the way through the men's 4x400 meter relay at 4:35 p.m. The team will compete against 18 other schools across the two days, a field that includes Bradley, Dallas Baptist, Huston-Tillotson, Mississippi Valley State, Missouri State, Nelson, North Dakota State, hosts SMU, Tarleton State, A&M-Texarkana, Texas Wesleyan, Trinity, Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, North Texas, UT Arlington, UT Dallas and UTEP.
A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action after a well-earned break last weekend, which came after it capped off a stretch of three consecutive weeks of competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California. Following the conclusion of that meet, the Islanders had two different athletes take home a weekly honor, as
Elizabeth Khatevi and
Natalia Rankin-Chitar were named the Southland Conference Women's Track Athlete and Women's Field Athlete of the Week respectively for the voting period of April 15-21. Khatevi's victory was her second in three weeks after she also won the same award back on April 8, while Rankin-Chitar was honored for the first time in her career on the Island. With these wins, the Islanders now have six for the season when including indoor season, a group that also includes
Colin Benton on April 15 and both
Kye Lowth and
Cyan Green on February 18.
