Islanders Shut Down in Series Finale with Lamar

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team ran into an aggressive Lamar team in game three of their conference series who went on to take a 12-0 decision Saturday at Chapman Field.

The Islanders (9-26, 3-12 SLC) struggled to combat a high-producing Cardinals (21-17, 9-6 SLC) team who also locked down on the defensive end to shut out the home squad. Lamar outhit the Islanders 12-3 and scored just as many runs with the additional help of two errors in the Islanders' field.

Similar to the previous two games, Lamar exploded for a pair of innings that saw 5+ runs in each frame including a six-run sixth inning that enforced a run-rule.

Despite putting several on base, the Islanders couldn't get into scoring position until the bottom of the fifth when Zoey Stewart advanced to second after drawing a walk and Jolie Elizalde knocked an infield single.

Madison Espinoza, in a last effort, tried getting something going in the bottom of the sixth with her second hit of the day after dropping her ball into left field. It came with two outs on the board and inevitably she was left stranded as the ball game wrapped. Her first hit came as the lead-off in the second inning.

It marks Espinoza's first multi-hit game of the season, recording seven hits now on the year. Elizalde knocked her fourth of the season.
