CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Heading into a nine-day stretch consisting of nine games, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will get it started at home with a three-game series against Lamar Friday and Saturday at Chapman Field.
The Islanders (9-23, 3-9 SLC) are still looking to find a consistent rhythm in league play but hoping this weekend to match the success from their previous home conference series when they took two out of three from HCU. They will welcome Lamar (18-16, 6-6 SLC) this time, playing a doubleheader Friday beginning at 12 p.m. with game three set for Saturday also with a noon first pitch.
It initiates a stretch of nine games played in as many days, as they will play a midweek series at Lamar Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home for a three-game matchup with Nicholls next weekend. It will also be the first of three consecutive weekends playing at home where the Islanders are 4-3 so far.
Offensively,
Karisa Lopez has found a groove at the plate in conference play as she paves the way with a .333 batting average with nine hits and six runs, both of which also lead the team. She also leads overall with a .269 clip while
Crystal Davila and
CJ Castilla come in tied for second each turning in a .250 hitting mark.
In the circle,
Kendra Winfrey and
Malia Williams both hoist four wins to account for eight of the team's nine on the year. The latter was also tabbed the SLC Pitcher of the Week after throwing the complete-game shutout in game two with HCU to force the rubber match.
