Beach Volleyball Down in Baton Rouge for Battle on the Bayou

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team will head back to Louisiana this weekend, this time competing in LSU's Battle on the Bayou Friday and Saturday.

The Islanders (16-9) will open the weekend against RV Tulane Friday at 1 p.m. before playing a night cap against the hosts #11 LSU at 6 p.m. Saturday will round out competition with the Islanders facing South Carolina and Southern Miss at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.

LSU will be the fifth nationally ranked opponent that the Islanders will face this season, going for their first ranked win this year but third overall as a program. The Islanders have continued to receive votes in the AVCA Poll in every week this year.

The Islanders are coming off an undefeated home weekend, topping Texas A&M-Kingsville, SFA, Tarleton, and Sam Houston. The latter two matches came in hot 5-0 sweeps as they posted a 4-0 record in the Islander Classic for the second year in a row.

The weekend propelled the ones pair of Madison Morrow/Tess Spaansen to a 19-5 duo record all from that top spot. They lead the team in wins, with their 19 tying them for fifth in season-wins as a pair.

They are joined by two others pairs with double figure wins as a duo. Bryce Ranney/Jade Bennett have hoisted a 15-5 record including an 11-1 mark at court five. Kristin Bobay/Millie Olssen have settled into the No. 2 spot for a 13-7 record on the year. Nine Islanders have 10+ individual dual wins this season

This weekend will be the first of two final tournaments for the Islanders' regular season schedule before they head to the SLC Championships on April 23-25 in New Orleans in search of their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
