Softball Unable to Produce in Game Three at Southeastern

HAMMOND, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team couldn't get past Southeastern in game three of the conference series, falling 5-0 Friday at North Oak Park to wrap the weekend.

The Islanders (9-23, 3-9 SLC) only saw production from a lone batter, with Karisa Lopez knocking the only two hits on the day for the 2-for-2 plate performance. The rest of the squad struggled to get past Southeastern's (29-8, 11-1 SLC) starter who threw the complete game.

The first sign of life from the Islanders came in the third when Lopez led off with the single up the middle. She was thrown out as the lead runner when CJ Castilla put the ball in play, but the batter eventually got into scoring position during the next at-bat. Castilla wouldn't find home, however, and was left stranded at second.

The third inning also saw Southeastern striking, as the Lady Lions plated two during the bottom frame. After a silent top of the fourth, Southeastern then took that inning to add three more runs to the tally as they led it 5-0.

Lopez registered her second hit of the day in the fifth, sending hers to right field on the 2-2 count with two outs before being left on first as the Lady Lions got out of the frame. Neither team would score in the final three innings, as Southeastern closed out the 5-0 win in game three.

Lopez now leads the team in batting with a .269 average, including a .333 clip in conference play. Today marked her fourth multi-hit game of the season, which ties her for team lead.

On deck:
The Islanders will return home for a three-game series against Lamar next weekend, which will initiate a stretch of nine games played in eight days as they continue through the conference schedule.
