AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field team is set to compete in a pair of separate meets across this upcoming week, splitting off between the 97
th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, both of which run from Thursday through Saturday.
The Islanders most recently started their indoor season at the UTSA Invitational last weekend, taking home four individual medals and getting multiple different athletes into the outdoor record books for the first time. The best performance came from senior
Izac Canchola, who took home first place in the men's javelin throw while setting the new school record in his first time suiting up for the team in any fashion. The other podium finishes came from
Cyan Green,
Emmanuel Ekuma and
Nyadhol Thichiot, with Green earning silver in the women's hammer throw and the other two notching bronze in the men's discus throw and the women's triple jump respectively.
At the Texas Relays, A&M-Corpus Christi starts things off on Thursday, with the first event scheduled to start at 1 p.m. The team's time in Austin will see the return to action of freshman
Phylis Kibet, who was named the Southland Conference Women's Freshman of the Year for indoor season after a stellar campaign in which she earned three different silver medals at the SLC Indoor Championships and took down program records in the 800m, the mile and the 3,000m. Canchola will also compete in the javelin throw at the event, where he will look to improve on his excellent start to outdoor season.

Bryan Jackson. "Texas Relays is the premier track and field competition in the state of Texas. It's a great early season opportunity to see where we are at."
At the same time, the Islanders also get going at the Bobcat Invitational at 9 a.m. on Thursday before then starting at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The meet in San Marcos will see 37 different competitors suit up for A&M-Corpus Christi across the three days, including the trio of Green, Ekuma and Thichiot, who will all try to earn podium finishes in back-to-back weeks to open up the outdoor season.
The final two days of the Texas Relays can be watched live on SEC Network+. The live results for both meets will also be available to follow along as they happen.
