HAMMOND, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will take on the defending conference champions in Southeastern this week, playing a doubleheader Thursday and game three on Friday for another road conference series at North Oak Park.
The Islanders (9-20, 3-6 SLC) and Lady Lions (26-8, 8-1 SLC) moved their series up a day due to incoming weather across Louisiana this weekend, making it a Thursday/Friday matchup. They will get underway in a doubleheader Thursday starting at 4 p.m. with game three squeezing in on Friday at 12 p.m.
The Islanders are coming off their first conference series win of the year, taking two of three from HCU at home last weekend. It was aided by a game two shutout thrown completely by
Malia Williams, the reigning SLC Pitcher of the Week. Through seven innings, she only allowed one walk and four hits while striking out five as the Islanders won 7-0 and force the rubber match which they went on to win 5-3 for the winning weekend.
Paolina Baez and Karissa Lopez each finished 2-for-3 at the plate in game three while the former recorded her 20
th RBI of the year. She leads the team in RBIs and is additionally the only Islander to even record 10+.
All three games will be available to watch live on ESPN+.
