CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will be back home this weekend when they host HCU in another conference series Friday and Saturday at Chapman Field.
The Islanders (7-19, 1-5 SLC) will take on the Huskies (10-15, 4-2 SLC) in a doubleheader Friday beginning at 12 p.m. while the third and final game will take place Saturday also at noon. The Islanders will be going for their first conference series win this season while HCU notched a league opening sweep over Northwestern State.
A&M-Corpus Christi ran into a skid against East Texas A&M last weekend to drop that series but return home where they last notched a 3-2 walk-off victory over UIW.
Karisa Lopez drove in that winning run, now seconding the team in average (.333) and hits (4) in league play.
Monee Montilla leads the offense with a .556 batting clip in conference play. She's knocked five hits against league pitchers two of which were doubles. She has also remained perfect in the field with a team-high 35 putouts.
The Islanders lead HCU 29-22 in the all-time record and won last year's series 2-1 in Houston. However, they will be looking for vengeance after falling to the Huskies in the SLC Tournament last season.
All three games will be available to watch live on ESPN+.
