THIBODAUX, La. – The Southland Conference will crown a regular season champion this weekend in the SLC Midseason Tournament hosted by Nichollas at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex, and the two-time defending champions of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team will look to three-peat when they get in action Friday through Sunday.
The Islanders (7-8) will face Nicholls and McNeese Friday to start the weekend at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. Their Saturday matchups will come against HCU at 9 a.m. and New Orleans at 1 p.m. Sunday will have the same schedule as Saturday, with the Islanders finishing out against San Jose State and Boise State.
The Islanders are 2-0 in conference play already this year with wins over Southeastern and SFA. They have yet to concede a regular season match to a conference opponent since head coach
Gayle Stammer took over at the helm in 2016, extending to 35-0 against Southland teams.
They have won five conference championships within the last three years, taking every title available with back-to-back regular season trophies and three consecutive tournament titles. A&M-Corpus Christi was additionally picked to repeat in the SLC Preseason Poll this year and has also been receiving votes every week in the AVCA Poll.
