Softball Concedes Lead Late, Falls in Game Three to East Texas A&M

COMMERCE, Texas – After a pair of homers put the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team ahead, the two-run lead wouldn't hold as East Texas A&M reversed the advantage and ended on top Saturday to close out the series.

It was a game of home runs, as the Islanders (7-19, 1-5 SLC) got on the board first with the two-run shot from Paolina Baez in the third. In the next outing, Crystal Davila went yard herself to get what seemed like an insurance run back and lead 3-1 after the Lions (7-21, 3-3 SLC) tallied a run in the bottom of the third.

The advantage wouldn't hold, however, as East Texas A&M sent one over the outfield fence themselves to knot the game up in the fourth. Another blast from the home squad came in the fifth and this time it hurt for three runs as the Lions closed out a 6-3 reversal.

Offensively, the Islanders outhit the Lions 9-8. Monee Montilla went 3-for-3 at the plate, just the third Islander this year to register 3+ hits in a game this year. She is additionally on a six-game streak of reaching base while Mimi Thornton who also knocked a hit today has reached base in the last five games.

Baez and Davila both recorded their third home runs of the year, while Baez added two RBIs to her season-leading total of 17 now. It marked her fifth multi-RBI game of the season. They are the only two Islanders with multiple homers this year.

Also getting something off their bats today were Karisa Lopez, CJ Castilla, and Katelyn Crossman who each tallied a hit today as well.

On deck:
The Islanders will look to rebound and aim for their first conference series win when they return home next weekend to host HCU Friday and Saturday.
