STANFORD, Calif. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program came out on top of a narrow 3-2 victory over St. Mary's Friday morning to open the Stanford Tournament before falling to the nationally ranked hosts 5-0 at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Center.
The Islanders (7-6) clinched a battled 3-2 win against St. Mary's (7-8) to start the weekend off in the first-ever meeting against the Gaels. A&M-Corpus Christi couldn't find similar success against the #5 Stanford hosts, however, despite keeping pace with multiple close sets.

Tess Spaansen responded after dropping a tight 21-19 first set and reverse swept for the deciding point with 21-19, 15-13 edges in sets two and three.
Stanford was then able to take every point in A&M-Corpus Christi's second match of the day.

Jade Bennett at line four took a set from the hosts with a 21-15 first set before being edged out 21-18 and 15-13.
The Islanders will wrap up their trip out west tomorrow when they face Utah at 10 a.m. CT before rematching Stanford at 12 p.m. CT.
