Softball Heads Out for First Road Conference Series

COMMERCE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will take its first conference road trip this weekend, heading up to East Texas A&M for a three-game series at the John Cain Family Softball Complex.

The Islanders (7-16, 1-2 SLC) and the Lions (4-21, 0-3) will play a doubleheader Friday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. before closing out the weekend with game three Saturday at 12 p.m.

The Islanders are coming off a 1-2 opening conference weekend against UIW, salvaging the series in game three with a 3-2 walk-off. Karisa Lopez held the honor of calling game, as she saw the payoff pitch in the bottom of the seventh deep to the gap in right center as Monee Montilla rounded third and made her way home for the victory.

Lopez led the team batting .400 through the series, knocking two hits with a run and an RBI. She is top-five in hitting on the team so far this season, averaging a .244 mark at the plate. Mimi Thornton has been the most efficient batter for the Islanders so far, batting a team-high .283 average this year.

In the circle, Kendra Winfrey earned the first conference win of the year after throwing seven innings in the walk-off victory against UIW. She only conceded one earned run during her outing.

A&M-Corpus Christi is 6-0 all-time over East Texas A&M, sweeping them in each of the last two seasons' series. All games this weekend will be streamed live on ESPN+.
