AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team split the final day of the weekend, coming up just short of the undefeated tournament outing after defeating Coastal Carolina 4-1 but being edged out by #14 Texas 3-2 Saturday.
The Islanders (5-3) notched their fourth straight victory this morning with the win over Coastal Carolina, the first meeting every between the two programs. However, the streak was broken against the nationally ranked Longhorns following a narrow 3-2 match division.
"We played focused, disciplined, and consistent this weekend, with tougher serving across the board," said head coach
Gayle Stammer. "We deserved every win we earned and had a great battle against Texas at the end of the day. It was an overall good weekend for the Islanders!"
The pairing of

Madison Morrow have continued to dominate and defend the top position, improving to 8-0 on the year from No. 1. They posted a three-set victory against Coastal Carolina to start the day before sweeping the ranked Longhorns in a pair of 21-17 sets.

Bryce Ranney also posted an undefeated day, improving to a 7-1 duo record on the year. They played comfortably at court five against Coastal Carolina for a 21-18, 21-15 decision before moving up to play Texas's fours and took care of business there too in a gritty three-set victory.
Next up, the Islanders will head west next weekend to Arizona State's Sun Devil Classic for three matches.
