NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team took down UAB in a tight 3-2 decision before dropping to Concordia-Irvine with the same score reversed to open the season with the split record in the Tulane Tournament.
The Islanders (1-1) were able to pull out a hardy 3-2 victory in the season opener against UAB, winning at courts one, four, and five to start the year off on a high note. However, the second match wouldn't go the same way as Concordia-Irvine was able to get past them with a 3-2 match score.
A&M-Corpus Christi swept both ends of the lineup today, with
Madison Morrow and
Tess Spaansen locking down the No. 1 spot with dominant sweeps while
Jade Bennett and
Bryce Ranney teamed at court five to grind out a pair of wins there on the day.
Bennet/Ranney were the ones to clinch the first match of the day, coming back from a set down to decide the victory.
Kela Moreno and
Veronique Magnan also notched a win on the day to get involved with the win over UAB, pairing at court four for the 21-15, 21-16 decision.
It marks A&M-Corpus Christi's third-ever win over UAB between nine all-time matchups. It was the first-ever meeting between the Islanders and Concordia-Irvine.
The Islanders will look to post a more refined day tomorrow, taking on hosts Tulane at 8:30 a.m. before playing their first conference match of the year against Southeastern at 11 a.m.
