NEW ORLEANS – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's cross country teams earned a pair of prestigious academic honors on Thursday, with each being given an All-Academic Team distinction by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2024 season. In addition, freshman
Alicia Finnis earned an individual accolade of her own, being named a Division I All-Academic Athlete.
To qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, including the most recent grading period. The women's team finished with a team GPA of 3.62, and the men finished with a team GPA of 3.17.
"I am extremely proud of how both the men's and women's teams performed academically in the fall," said head coach
Bryan Jackson. "This further proves we have a special group of young people."
Student-athletes earn All-Academic distinction by recording a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher while also finishing in the top 10 percent at an NCAA Regional Championship or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships. Finnis, a native of Salisbury, England, finished her first semester on the Island with a perfect 4.00 GPA while majoring in Civil Engineering.
"Individually, what a tremendous honor for Alicia," Jackson said. "This caps off a great freshman fall semester for her."
