CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team's final two home games of the season have been canceled. The Islanders were scheduled to play a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M at 1 and 3 p.m. Tuesday. It is the third consecutive season TAMU-CC has had at least one game with PVAM canceled.
The Islanders next will play Nicholls in their final regular-season series of the year. The Islanders will travel to Thibodaux, La., for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by a single game at noon Saturday.
TAMU-CC is 21-18 overall and in sixth place in the Southland Conference with a 9-12 record. Nicholls is 26-24 and in fourth place at 13-8. The Islanders can move into a tie for fifth with Lamar if they sweep Nicholls this weekend.
The Islanders are coming off a 1-2 weekend against conference leader McNeese. TAMU-CC handed McNeese just its second conference loss of the season with a 2-1 victory in Game 2. The Islanders also nearly won the other two games as well, losing Game 1, 1-0 in extra innings, and Game 3, 3-1, on two unearned runs. McNeese's five runs were the fewest the Cowgirls have scored in a three-game series this season.
Following the series with Nicholls, the Islanders will play in the Southland Conference Tournament in Lake Charles, La. The seeds and matchups will be decided following this weekend's final series of games. The tournament will last from Tuesday, May 7 through Friday, May 10.
