Beach Volleyball Continues on to TCU’s Horned Frog Challenge

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team is gearing up for another exciting weekend as they head to Fort Worth to participate in the Horned Frog Challenge, hosted by No. 5 TCU.

With a packed schedule, the Islanders are set for a four-match weekend, kicking off bright and early on Friday morning. At 7:30 a.m. Friday, the Islanders will be pitted against SFA before confronting UAB later in the day at 1:30 p.m. The challenging matchups set the tone for Saturday's lineup, featuring Tulane at 7:30 a.m. followed by UC Davis at 11:30 a.m. to close out the weekend.

"We have done well on the road this season and I'm confident that the team is ready to really compete against our opponents this weekend. We have a special group of ladies, and we are looking forward to the challenges ahead of us," said head coach Gayle Stammer

The Islanders (7-2) are off to their best start in program history with just two losses through their first nine matches of the season. It has gotten them the most votes in the AVCA Top-20 Coaches Poll among unranked teams, placing them right on the outskirts at No. 21.

Junior Hanah Doyle and freshman Cassie Dodd have made an exceptional debut this season, boasting individual records of 8-1 each and maintaining a flawless 5-0 record as a doubles pair. They earned the opening SLC Pair of the Week award after the two paired at court three to defeat No. 20 Cal Poly.

Sophomores Kristin Bobay and Madison Morrow also had an impressive start with a record of 7-2 both individually and as a pair, recently spending last weekend together at flight one. Junior Elizabeth Cortez/senior Tori Johnson are 5-1 as a pair playing at No. 5.

Overall, the Islanders are 35-10 on the year in duals.

The Islanders hold perfect against SFA in the all-time series, leading the Lumberjacks 6-0. They also advantage UC Davis 1-0 after the teams met for the first time last year with the Islanders emerging victorious in the 3-2 decision. It'll mark the second encounter with Tulane this year after A&M-Corpus Christi secured a 4-1 victory last weekend at the Tiger Beach Challenge. The Islanders will then look to avenge a tight loss last year to UAB for their second-ever win over the Blazers.
