Weather Cancels Softball's Sunday Game

JACKSON, Miss. – Due to unsuitable weather conditions, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team's Sunday game against Grambling was canceled on the final day of the River City Classic.

The game, originally set for 11 a.m. this morning, had to be called off due to weather in the area, as were all of the scheduled games for the day.

Despite the anticlimactic ending, the Islanders (3-1) still had notable success throughout opening weekend. By winning three of their first four games, the Islanders are off to their best start in eight years when the 2016 squad started the season 5-1.

On opening day, A&M-Corpus Christi defeated Arlington Baptist 13-4 before topping Alcorn State 4-2. The 17 total runs scored by the Islanders is a program best on opening day, which continued into day two where the Islanders added 16 more to shatter another program record as the 33 total runs are the most by the Islanders over an opening four-game stretch in team history.

The Islanders will look forward and continue on their run to face Louisiana Tech Monday night at 6 p.m. A&M-Corpus Christi will open its home slate next weekend against Stephen F. Austin for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader contest on Saturday with a noon start.

The Islanders are 3-1 all-time over Louisiana Tech as the teams will meet for the first time since the 2009 season when the Bulldogs won their first game over A&M-Corpus Christi 9-8.
