CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After navigating through a successful first season at the helm on the Island, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi head coach
Bryan Jackson announced the schedule for the 2025 Track and Field Spring season on Monday.
"I am extremely excited for my second indoor and outdoor season leading the Islanders," Jackson said. "This is a year of transition as we get a step closer to embodying the vision I have for the program. The group we have are bought in, and I can't wait to see the strides we take forward on the track, in the circle and on the runways."
The track and field indoor season kicks off on January 10, when the team travels to the University of Houston for the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational. The Islanders will then compete in two different meets at Texas A&M - the Ted Nelson Invitational on January 24-25 and the Charlie Thomas Invitational on February 7-8 - before heading to Texas Tech for the Jarvis Scott Invitational on February 14-15. The meet in Lubbock is the final one before the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, which will take place on March 2-3 in Birmingham, Alabama.
A&M-Corpus Christi saw a number of different standout individual performances at the indoor championships last year, taking home medals in four different events while also seeing a number of different personal bests. The star of the show was senior
Myla Tate, who took home a gold medal in the women's triple jump with a career-best mark of 12.19m. Senior
Kelvin Kimaiyo also earned a silver in the men's 5000m, finishing with a time of 14:33.43.
The indoor schedule comes to a close with the NCAA Championships on March 14-15, which will take place at Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, VA.
The Islanders begin their outdoor season soon after this, beginning with the UTSA Invitational from March 21-22. The team will then stay in state for its next three meets at Texas, Texas State and Texas A&M before splitting the weekend of April 17-19 at the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor and in California at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific. The regular season comes to a close after this with the Alumni Muster at Texas A&M on May 3.
The postseason begins with the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, which will be hosted by Rice University in Houston from May 15-17. Kimaiyo shined at last year's event, earning silver medals in both the 10k and the 5000m with times of 30:11.76 and 14:24.16 respectively. On the women's side, Tate took home bronze in the triple jump after reaching a mark of 12.34m, and the trio of junior
Khiah Lara-Turner, junior
Erial Fontenot and sophomore
Nia Hampton featured on the 4x100m relay team that won silver while setting a new school record with a time of 44:96s.
Following the SLC outdoor championships are both the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds and the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The former will be held at Texas A&M from May 28-31, while the latter will take place at the University of Oregon from June 11-14.
