COMMERCE, Texas – Gearing up for its longest road trip of the season, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team will play its first of three away conference games at Texas A&M-Commerce Friday night at Lion Soccer Field.
The Islanders (4-2-4) are coming off their first conference win under head coach
Daniel Clitnovici with a 3-1 victory over McNeese. They will be going up against a Commerce (3-6-3) team that finished second in the league last year in one of three straight road games.
It will be the most consecutive games played on the road for the Islanders this season.
"We are away for the next three games and we will need to rise to the challenges we are going to face," said Clitnovici. "Playing on the road is tough enough, but playing against three top conference opponents will be a real test for any team.
"We will focus on each game once at a time. Commerce this week will be a good game: they are well-coaches and organized and Coach Gordon will 100% have them fired up to host us. We will need to make sure we bring a confident mentality because we have been trending in a good direction and we have to carry on. Commerce has some threats that we will need to be prepared for, but so do we and we will definitely look to play on the front foot and hopefully get something out of the game," said Clitnovici.
