HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Shooting its best round of the season, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team turned in a 293 score on the final day of the Arkansas-Little Rock Diamante Classic to move up the leader board Tuesday at the Diamante Country Club.
The 293 is the best 18-hole total for the Islanders this year, with every player continuing their trend of improving each round this tournament. It is the first tournament this semester that the team submitted two rounds under 300 after carding a 299 yesterday.
It also comes after the Islanders competed with just four players in the three-day tournament.
"We improved again today and put up some good scores, I'm really proud of the way they were able to improve on each round," said head coach
Chris Adams. "Lucia had a great day under par and pretty solid rounds were put up by the others. The best round of the season so far, and there will definitely be more to come!"
Junior
Lucia Ramirez spearheaded the round and ended as the team's top finisher after submitting a 70 (-2) on the final day to finish with a 224 tournament score. It is the second tournament in a row that Ramirez was under par in a round, both times coming in the third round.
She remains the only Islander to shoot below par this year. Her 70 is the lowest individual round this season as well.
Sophomore
Samantha Gibbs ended right behind Ramirez with a 225 tournament score following a 75 on day three. Graduate
Tristan Gabbard and sophomore
Carla Puente Fernandez each turned in a 76 score today to round out the team with 230 and 235 tournament scores, respectively.
