FRISCO, Texas – Senior
Garry Clark of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program was honored on the Southland Conference Preseason First Team while the team was picked fourth in the Preseason Poll, announced by the league office on Thursday.
The Islanders checked in at fourth out of the expanded 12-team league with the additions of SFA and UTRGV. McNeese (242) was favored to repeat as regular season champions while newcomer SFA (208) came in strong with a predicted second-place finish. Nicholls (205) also came ahead of the Islanders in third place.
The Islanders ended second in the conference last season with a 14-4 league record. They have finished in the league's top four for the last three consecutive years including winning the regular season in 2022-23.
Clark, who was an All-Conference First Team selection last year, led the team in 2023-24 in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.1 ppg and 8.3 rpg in SLC play. He finished the regular season topping the league in field goal percentage with 54.6% overall and 54.3% in conference play. In conference play, Clark ranked third in defensive rebounding (5.7 drpg), fourth in rebounding (8.3 rpg), and fifth in offensive rebounding (2.6 orpg).
The Islanders will open the 2024-25 season on Nov. 4 at Purdue. Their conference opener is set for a home weekend against Lamar and SFA on Dec. 5 and Dec. 7 in the Dugan Wellness Center.
