HOUSTON – The Bryan Jackson era begins Friday when the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country programs compete in the 47th annual Rice Invitational.
Â
The women will start it off with a 4000m race at 6:45 p.m. and will be followed by the men's four mile at 7:10 p.m.
Â
"We've had a great first two weeks of training, and I have learned a lot about this team that excites me for what is to come. As we get into our first competitive atmosphere this fall, I am excited to learn more about the type of competitors they are," said first year head coach Bryan Jackson.
Â
The men bring back an experienced squad of nine returners. It includes defending SLC Champion
Dennis Kipngeno who won the conference meet, placed top-10 at South Central Regionals and competed at the NCAA Championships last season. It was the second consecutive year he reached the NCAA Championships.
Â
Also highlighting the men's squad are senior
Enock Kimutai and junior
Kelvin Kimaiyo. Kimutai medaled with a third-place showing at conference last year, while Kimaiyo placed second in 2021 and was the Freshman of the Year before missing most of last season due to injury.
Â
The women are expected to be guided by senior
Sharon Kiprop who placed 11th at conference last year. Kiprop also tallied a pair of top-10 finishes in regular season meets at Rice and UIW. Kiprop is one of two returners for the women along with senior
Riley Cowan.
