FRANCE – Head coach Kathleen Rodriguez of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program has been announced as the pitching coach for the French Women's Softball Team, announced by the French Baseball and Softball Federation.
Rodriguez will be designated to run all aspects of coaching and preparing the pitching staff for the 2024 European Championships. She will also be working alongside the Men's Fastpitch Team as well as the Junior National Team.
"This is a huge honor," said Rodriguez. "Celine Lassaigne, the head coach for the French National Team, is a major figure in the world of softball. To be given the opportunity to work alongside her, the rest of the French National Coaching Staff, and the world-class athletes is both exciting and humbling."
She will be working with a program that became an Olympic qualifying team during the 2019 European Championships.
"Everything we do and all we have our hands in is to add to the goodness of Islanders Athletics and Islanders Softball. This opportunity to work hand in hand with some of the best coaches in the world will definitely make us better as a program and coaching staff," said Rodriguez.
From Céline Lassaigne, the French team manager: "Kathleen's integration is an approach in accordance with our collective desire to move forward and progress. The mix of culture and knowledge remains the key to evolution. Both rigorous and benevolent, 'Mama Coach' as her players call her, will be a quality asset within the staff, with the players and for our program."
