CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Racing against stiff competition last week at Minnesota, graduate
Dennis Kipngeno and sophomore
Deandra Ibarra from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country program earned men's and women's Southland Conference Athlete of the Week honors, respectively.
At the Roy Griak Invitational, Kipngeno turned in an 8000m time of 24:57.5 to end in 32nd on out 171. Ibarra was A&M-Corpus Christi's top women's finisher and clocked in at 23:51.2 in the 6000m.

It's the third weekly award in two competitions for the Islanders after freshman
Mathayo Kiptoo Bundotich was honored on Sept. 12 after winning the Rice Invitational.

The Islanders will next compete at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M on Friday, Oct. 15. The 2023 SLC Championships are slated for Friday, Oct. 27 on the campus of UIW.
