Soccer Returns Home for Rematch against UTRGV in South Texas Showdown, Presented by Rally Credit Union

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After a lengthy road swing, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program will play its first home game in nearly a month when it rematches UTRGV in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union at 7 p.m. Thursday at Dugan Stadium.

The Islanders completed a six-game road trip and enter play on a three-game unbeaten streak. It included wins over Prairie View A&M 6-0 and Tarleton State 3-1. Junior Kaitlynn Melton broke the school record for assists in a game with three against the Texans.

A&M-Corpus Christi will look to avenge a very close 2-1 defeat to the Vaqueros early this season in Edinburg. The Islanders registered twice as many shots on goal with an 8-4 advantage over UTRGV. A&M-Corpus Christi's goal scorer was senior Olivia Hughes.

"We are very excited to be playing at home and to have a second chance to rectify the last result against them. I know the team is focused and confident after three games undefeated," said head coach Craig Shaw.

Junior Rachel Loetzer is the reigning Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week winner. She scored in the 82nd minute on a header to put away Tarleton State in the victory. It was her second goal of the season.

Loetzer is one of three Islanders to start in all seven games this year along with senior Jayden Rea and junior Gracie Gill. Junior Emma Crump has logged a team-high 480 minutes.

A&M-Corpus Christi's offense has been led by sophomore Mai-Lisa Atis with three goals and junior Megan Guy with two goals, three assists and 11 shots. Nine different Islanders have scored a goal this season.
