SAN ANTONIO – Mixing and matching its lineups all night long, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program fell behind early but fought for 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat to UTSA in an exhibition match at the Park West Athletics Complex.
Â
The Islanders trailed 2-0 when they converted on a corner kick. Senior
Molly Arens was the goal scorer on a header sent in from senior
Reese Cross.
Â
"So many positives to take away from this game versus the Conference USA champions. We used all 27 available players, so our entire team got a chance to get the rust off and better prepare for Texas," said head coach
Craig Shaw.
Â
UTSA is coming off a banner year after winning the Conference USA Tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in 2022.
Â
It was the first of two exhibition matches for the Islanders who will also travel to Texas on Aug. 12. The regular season opener is Thursday, Aug. 17 when A&M-Corpus Christi hosts Texas Southern at Dugan Stadium.
