Soccer Completes Exhibition at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO – Mixing and matching its lineups all night long, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program fell behind early but fought for 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat to UTSA in an exhibition match at the Park West Athletics Complex.

The Islanders trailed 2-0 when they converted on a corner kick. Senior Molly Arens was the goal scorer on a header sent in from senior Reese Cross.

"So many positives to take away from this game versus the Conference USA champions. We used all 27 available players, so our entire team got a chance to get the rust off and better prepare for Texas," said head coach Craig Shaw.

UTSA is coming off a banner year after winning the Conference USA Tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in 2022.

It was the first of two exhibition matches for the Islanders who will also travel to Texas on Aug. 12. The regular season opener is Thursday, Aug. 17 when A&M-Corpus Christi hosts Texas Southern at Dugan Stadium.
