CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The home and regular season opener to the 2023 campaign kicks-off Thursday at 7 p.m. when the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program welcomes Texas Southern to Dugan Stadium.

The game will be a White Out in the stadium and will also be Youth Camp Day. The contest can be watched live with a subscription to ESPN+ with Steven King on the call.

"We are excited to get started and play at home. Texas Southern has improved so much and is going to be a real threat all game. We just need to settle our nerves as quickly as possible and play our game," said head coach
Craig Shaw.

Shaw enters his seventh season at the helm and carries a career head coaching record of 145-118-28 across Division I, II, and NAIA. Last season, his squad broke the school record for goals in a season with 37.

The Islanders returned all 11 starters from a year ago and also brought in 12 newcomers, including eight freshmen. A&M-Corpus Christi landed four student-athletes on the SLC Preseason All-Conference Teams including junior forwards
Megan Guy and
Morgan Westbury on the First-Team, senior midfielder
Molly Arens on the Second-Team and junior midfielder
Rachel Loetzer on the Second-Team.

Texas Southern is coming off a 2-2 tie in an exhibition game against UTRGV this past weekend. The Tigers advanced to the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament last year after posting a 4-3-2 conference record.

A&M-Corpus Christi is 5-0-0 all-time against Texas Southern with a combined score of 20-2. Last season, the Islanders won 3-1 on the road with goals by Arens, Westbury and senior
Reese Cross.
