CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Having experienced success at several levels of Division I, Bryan Jackson was appointed as Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Â
Jackson spent the previous five seasons as an assistant coach at UCF. He also served successful stints at Pitt, Texas State, Bowling Green and Wofford.
Â
"I want to thank Adrian Rodriguez, Eric Schultz and the entire search committee for their vote of confidence and the opportunity to lead this program. I also want to thank Coach Dana Boone for nine tremendous years as her assistant," Jackson said. "I am extremely excited to become a member of Islanders Athletics. I look forward to meeting the team, our alumni and hitting the road in search of future Islanders who want to be a part of what we are going to build."
Â
Jackson helped coach UCF to its most prosperous period in program history as the women's team won four conference championships, the most of any women's program in AAC history. Jackson aided in sending eight student-athletes to the past two NCAA Championships and his distance squad saw unprecedented success in his tenure.
Â
In distance alone, Jackson coached student-athletes to outdoor records in the 1500m and 3000m, as well as multiple cross country freshman records. Jackson's cross country team won its first home meet since 2013.
Â
'I am very excited about Coach Jackson helming our Cross Country and Track and Field teams. He is an excitable leader with a plan for success in the Southland Conference. I look forward to welcoming him and his family to our Islanders Athletics family," said vice president of intercollegiate athletics Adrian Rodriguez.
Â
Jackson joined the UCF staff after three seasons as the men's cross country and assistant track and field coach at the Pitt. While with the Panthers, he led the cross country squad to its best ACC Championship team finish in program history.
Â
Prior to Pitt, Jackson coached at Texas State from 2011-15 where he experienced tremendous success, including three Western Athletic Conference Track and Field Championship titles in 2013.
Â
With the Bobcats, Jackson helped student-athletes break nine school records. He coached one NCAA National qualifier, eight NCAA Division I Preliminary qualifiers, 13 Sun Belt All-Conference performers, nine Western Athletic Conference All-Conference performers and four Southland All-Conference performers.
Â
He made his collegiate coaching debut with the Falcons before taking over the Wofford cross country and track and field programs. He coached the 2009 Southern Conference Cross County Male Freshman of the Year and helped 15 student-athletes earn All-Freshman Team honors.
He coached student-athletes to four conference championships, 27 all-conference accolades and 65 school records. Under his tutelage, Nick Wolk was crowned the 5000m champion at the 2017 USA Track and Field Junior National Championship.
Â
A Pittsburgh native, Jackson was a two-time letter winner for the Bowling Green cross country team while pursuing a degree in business administration.Â
