CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field programs was represented by five student-athletes on the men's and women's Southland Conference All-Academic Teams, the league announced Friday.
On the men's side, graduate
Ke'Tavion Humber, junior
Dennis Kipngeno and sophomore
Kelvin Kimaiyo were distinguished. The women earned nods from graduate
Quin Johnson and senior
Faith Bett.
Humber tallied a 3.857 grade point average (GPA) as a grad student in his family nurse practition curriculum. He was an NCAA West Regional qualifier where he ran a 14.04 in the 110m hurdles. Humber placed fourth in the event in conference and fifth as part of the 4x400m relay team.
Kipngeno, who becomes a two-time SLC All-Academic selection, carries a 3.48 cumulative GPA as a nursing major. He was the Outstanding Running Events performer at the SLC Indoor Championship and was named to the All-Conference First-Team both indoors and outdoors. At the outdoor championship, he earned gold medals in both the 5K (14:56.99) and 10K (30:35.40).
Kimaiyo holds a 3.514 cumulative GPA as a nursing major. He earned SLC All-Conference First-Team honors indoors and Third-Team outdoors. At the outdoor meet, he placed third in the 10K (30:38.07) and fourth in the 5K.
Johnson is a grad student that turned in a 4.0 GPA both as an undergrad and graduate in her Master's in public administration. Johnson ran a season-best time of 35:40.68 in the 10K at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Her season was highlighted by a gold medal in the 5K at the UTSA Invitational with a 17:48.94.
Bett recorded a 3.339 GPA as a nursing major. She was named to the SLC All-Conference Second-Team outdoors and Third-Team indoors for her performances in the 800m. Bett clocked in at 2:12.48 at the conference outdoor meet and 2:14.39 indoors.
