COMMERCE, Texas - On the third and final day of the SLC Outdoor Championships, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's track and field teams saw senior
Dennis Kipngeno earn his second gold and the team's third of the meet at Memorial Stadium.
"Overall, I thought the kids fought hard," said head coach Brent Ericksen. "The kids we have for the most part did everything they could and more."
Kipngeno was the front runner in the men's 5,000m run with his two teammates,
Enock Kimutai (junior) and
Kelvin Kimaiyo (sophomore) shortly behind him in third and fourth. The aforementioned victor tan a mark of 14:56.99 with both of the latter runners coming in at 14:57.78 and 15:02.22 respectively.
Graduate student
Faith Bett finished runner-up in the women's 800m run, crossing the line at 2:12.48. Senior
Riley Cowan came across in sixth, just four seconds behind Bett at 2:16.31.
Daniel Armstrong finished third in the men's 400m hurdles in his senior campaign with the Islanders. The mark of 51.80s was a season-best time for him as he looks to see how his mark holds going forward.
Junior
Capri Wilson ran a season-best time of 11.54s in the women's 100m dash to put her third in the performance.
Competing in the 110m hurdles finals, graduate student
Ke'Tavion Humber earned a fourth-place finish with a mark of 14 seconds flat. He improved his season-best mark while on the track.
Tranasia Jones, a sophomore, finished sixth in the women's 400m dash with a season-best mark of 55.38s to imrpove.
Sharon Kiprop earned fifth in her junior season in the women's 1500m run at 4:44.04. Bett competed in the race and finished behind Kiprop in seventh at 4:47.45.
Spencer Bigner, a senior, jumped 2.03m in the men's high jump to earn a sixth-place finish.
Also finishing sixth was the women's 4x100m relay comprised of Wilson, freshman
Zenai Fowler, sophomore
Journi Williams, and freshman
Khiah Lara-Turner. The quartet put down a time of 46.75 in the event.
A&M-Corpus Christi looks to keep an eye on the west regional rankings to see who will advance to the NCAA Regionals.
Ericksen remarked, "I'm really excited that as of right now we have four men that are in the top 48 in the NCAA West Region and I expect at least three of those marks to hold up."
