COMMERCE, Texas - Sweeping the men's 10,000m run, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track and field saw a variety of success Thursday night at the SLC Outdoor Championships at Memorial Stadium.
"To dominate the men's 10K was really special," said head coach Brent Ericksen. "Dennis is just a champion ant that's all you have to say about how he competes. Enock ran a really though race and Kelvin started to cramp with several laps left and they just battled through."
Senior
Dennis Kipngeno led the way for the men in the 10,000m run with a time of 30:35.40 to claim gold. Directly behind him was junior
Enock Kimutai, just 0.44s away from Kipngeno. Sophomore
Kelvin Kimaiyo rounded out the top three with a time of 30:38.07 for the 1-2-3 finish.
Senior
Daniel Armstrong earned the fifth-fastest time in the men's 400m hurdles to advance to the finals at 52.14s.
Quin Johnson, a graduate student, placed fifth in the women's 10,000m run at 37:48.90 in the race.
Ericksen continued to say, "Quin was in a tough spot in the 10K and just got outkicked at the end after leading most of the race to finish fifth."
Sophomore
Logan Rickey and senior
Hunter Haas finished best for the Islanders with marks of 4:06.85 and 4:10.96, respectively.
Junior
Capri Wilson led the way for the women in the women's 200m dash at 25.27s with classmate
John Moreno running a 22.84s mark to lead the men's side of the event.
A&M-Corpus Christi will return to the track as the day begins at 11 a.m. Friday morning. The event will be streamed on ESPN+ with a subscription.
