CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The NCAA announced Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR) for teams across the country, and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi saw four programs recognized for perfect scores for the 2021-22 year.
The A&M-Corpus Christi women's cross country, soccer, men's tennis and women's tennis teams all tallied perfect 1,000 scores. Soccer was the only 1,000 score in its sport in the Southland Conference.

Men's and women's basketball were both above the national average. The Islanders men recorded a 980, which is ahead of the national average of 967, while the women's 987 was ahead of the national average of 982.

"Our student-athletes have created a competitive culture of academic achievement that permeates across all sports," said vice president of intercollegiate athletics Adrian Rodriguez. "They are determined to succeed, committed to excellence and respectful of the challenge of being a student-athlete at The Island University. It's a credit to our educational support staff, institutional faculty and staff, the coaches and the student-athletes that A&M-Corpus Christi Athletics continues to be a positive display of academic excellence."

Furthermore, A&M-Corpus Christi's four-team total was the most in the Southland Conference as HCU and UIW each had three.

"This is a remarkable achievement for our athletic program. To have four teams publicly recognized by the NCAA shows how truly dedicated our student-athletes have been to their respective sports. I applaud all the student-athletes, coaches and staff who have contributed to this over the last four years," said deputy AD for internal operations Eric Schultz.

The honors came after A&M-Corpus Christi tallied the highest APR average in the SLC to win the league's Academic Performance Award in June 2022. It was the first time the department had ever won the award since its inception in 2013.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I athletics teams across the country. It provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Athletically, Islanders Athletics in the midst of a record-breaking year as a department. A&M-Corpus Christi has already won eight championships in 2022-23, the most in a single year in school history.
