Islanders Earn Multiple Top-Five Performances at Cameron Burrell Alumni Invite

HOUSTON, Texas - Fighting hard through consistent rain was the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track and field program at the Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational on Friday.
 
"The wind combined with the amount of rain made for some really tough conditions," said head coach Brent Ericksen. "I think the best part was watching our 4x400m relay that normally doesn't run it giving everything they had! It was a great way to and a really tough day out there.
 
Sean Majors earned the highest mark of the Islanders with a second-place finish in the men's long jump with a personal best 7.13 mark in his graduate student season. The new mark moves him up for a tie in third in the Islanders' record books. Later, he competed in the 200m dash, clocking in at 21.62s for third in the event.
 
Sophomore Tranasia Jones also earned a top three finish in the women's 400m dash at 56.87s.

With a personal best that moved him up to seventh all-time for the program, Spencer Bigner, a graduate student, leaped 2.00m in the men's high jump. Sophomores Jamal Dawson and Noah Gonzales earned eighth and ninth in the event respectively. Junior Jaiyah Hodge jumped 1.52m on the women's side of the event for fourth on the day.
 
Graduate student Faith Bett fought her way to a fifth-place mark in the women's 1500m run with junior Sharon Kiprop following in sixth. The duo earned marks of 4:40.73 and 4:41.34 respectively.
 
On the men's side of the event, sophomore Logan Rickey put down a time of 4:08.71 for ninth.
 
Joining Majors in the 200m dash was classmate Ke'Tavion Humber, where he placed sixth at 21.80s in the same heat.
 
Freshman Khiah Lara-Turner led the pack for the women in the 200m dash with a time of 25.10s to place seventh. Journi Williams, a sophomore, ran 25.50s for a top 10 mark
 
Capri Wilson earned seventh in the women's 100m dash for a time of 12.44s.
 
Rounding out the day were sophomores Rogerio Gomez and Rickey in the men's 3,000m run. Gomez earned sixth with a time of 8:57.58 with the latter coming in at 10th at 9:15.38.
 
The Islanders return to action next weekend when the squad splits up for the Mt. SAC Relays and Cactus Open.
