FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team will conclude its championship regular season this weekend when it competes in the TCU Tournament Friday and Saturday at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts.
The Islanders will face HCU (12-11) once more at 8 a.m. Friday to open the weekend before taking on #1 TCU (24-0) at 2 p.m. A&M-Corpus Christi will close out its regular season with matches against FGCU (10-12) and UTEP (4-13) on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., respectively.
It will be the final tournament of the regular season for the Islanders before hosting the SLC Championships as the No. 1 seed on April 21-23. They will look to defend their tournament title while also gunning for their third championship in two years after winning the inaugural SLC regular season this year.
That achievement was celebrated last weekend as part of A&M-Corpus Christi's home tournament, the Conni & Jay Wise Islander Classic, where the team went undefeated with wins over SFA, HCU, and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Courts two, three, and five all went 3-0 with sophomore
Kela Moreno and redshirt junior
Shea Slusser not dropping a set at the No. 5 spot. The pair is on a nine-match winning streak.
As a team, the Islanders are 77-49 (.611) in duals. Sophomore
Jade Bennett and junior
Tori Johnson hold the team-best 16-9 record as a pair, all coming from court three.
The Islanders have now won five straight and eight of their last ten, only dropping to #4 Florida State and #5 LSU. Though, one of those victories came against #17 Arizona for the program's first ever win over a top-20 opponent.
It will be the third time this season that the Islanders face conference-foe HCU with A&M-Corpus Christi winning each meeting. The Islanders have won 26 consecutive regular season matches against SLC opponents dating back to 2019.
It will mark A&M-Corpus Christi's first-ever meetings with FGCU and UTEP.
