Track & Field to Close Out Regular Season at Rice

HOUSTON, Texas - Two weeks ahead of the conference meet, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track and field will compete at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight at Holloway Field Saturday.

"We're trying to sharpen up and get ready for conference in two weeks and I think we're going to have some good conditions there," said head coach Brent Ericksen.

Sean Majors, a graduate student, leaped a season-best mark of 7.58m in the long jump at the Cactus Cup, moving him up to second all-time for the Islanders and up to 29th in the nation. As the top 48 in the region qualify for regionals, he aims to improve his mark while maintaining his position in the rankings.

Spencer Bigner, a classmate to Majors, earned a personal best mark of 2.03m in the high jump to place third at the Cactus Cup, improving upon his seventh-place mark in the Islanders' record book.

Enoch Antwi, a junior, claimed victory in the men's triple jump, jumping 14.84m at last week's meet. The jump places him fourth in the conference thus far in the 2023 outdoor campaign.

Junior Dennis Kipngeno holds the top time in the conference in the men's 5,000m run with a time of 13:54.70, sitting 23 seconds over second place, his teammate, Kelvin Kimaiyo, a sophomore.

In the 10,000m run, graduate student Quin Johnson set a new personal best with a time of 35:40.68 to place 13th in the event. On the men's side of the event, classmate Juan Salinas III improved his season best to 31:29.80 in the 2023 outdoor campaign.

The team is reuniting after splitting last week between the Cactus Cup and the Bryan Clay Invitational out in Kingsville, Texas and Azusa, California respectively. During both meets, ten top-10 marks were broken, cementing more of the 2023 season in Islanders history.

Saturday is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with field events with running events picking up in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
