Track & Field Wraps Up Bryan Clay Invite

AZUSA, California – After heading out to the west coast, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track and field program concluded the Bryan Clay Invitation by setting several personal and season bests at the largest distance event of the season.

Juan Salinas III, a graduate student, kicked off the day for the Islanders in the men's 10,000m run. He shaved two minutes off his season best for a time of 31:29.80 in the event.

Quin Johnson, a classmate to Salinas, set a personal best in the women's side of the event, clocking in at 35:40.68. It was both runners' second 10K of the season.

"In the 10K, Quin ran a really strong race and put down a new personal best," said head coach Brent Ericksen.

Junior Sharon Kiprop ran her way to a top-10 finish in ninth competing in the women's 5,000m run. Her mark of 17:15.34 is a personal best mark. Kiprop slid into fifth all-time for A&M-Corpus Christi.

"For the women, I think Sharon had the biggest break thru, improving her 5K best. It was great to see her get out aggressively and battle at the front the whole way," noted Ericksen.

Graduate Student Faith Bett ran a time of 2:14.28 in the women's 800m dash with senior Riley Cowan behind her at 2:16.26.

Kelvin Kimaiyo improved upon his season-best 5,000m run with a time of 14:17.73 to take 11 seconds off of his time in the 2023 outdoor season. Within the same race, junior Enock Kimutai ran a time of 14:41.79 in his heat. Kimutai moved into the Islanders' top-10 list to seventh on the list.

Dennis Kipngeno, a junior, competed in the final race of the day, earning a third-place finish with a time of 13:54.70 in the men's 5,000m run. With the performance, he improves upon his personal best mark by over six seconds to remain second all-time in the record books for the Islanders, just shy of breaking the record.

A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action with the second squad taking to the 15th Annual Cactus Cup today, starting at 12 p.m. in Kingsville, Texas.
