AUSTIN, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's track and field program saw its first action of the Texas Relays on Thursday as the distance group and one hurdler took to the track at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Daniel Armstrong, a senior, started the day off for the Islanders in the men's 400m hurdles where he ran a mark of 53.345s.
Following the performance by Armstrong, a trio of Islanders competed in the men's 5,000m run with sophomore
Kelvin Kimaiyo leading the pack with a fourth-place finish. Kimaiyo's 14:28.32 mark narrowly edged out teammate
Dennis Kipngeno, a senior, by 0.02s who clocked in at 14:28.34. Junior Enoch Kumutai rounded out the group with a time of 14:52.89.
Graduate student
Quin Johnson competed in her first 10,000m run of the season, clocking in at a time of 37:31.20. She improved upon her placing from last year when she earned ninth, moving up to seventh in the 2023 performance.
Rounding out the day on the track was graduate student
Juan Salinas III on the men's side of the 10K. He ran a mark of 33:09.79 in his first time competing in the event in 2023.
The third day of the Texas Relays and second for A&M-Corpus Christi will kick off at 9 a.m. and be streamed on ESPN+ with a subscription.
