Softball Back at Home for Conference Series Versus Nicholls

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will be seeking its first conference series win this year when it hosts Nicholls for a three-game series this weekend at Chapman Field.

The three-game series will open with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 12 p.m. while game three is set for Saturday also with a noon start. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Islanders (14-13, 2-4 SLC) have garnered two wins in SLC play but have yet to secure a series win after playing HCU and Southeastern already this season. Though, A&M-Corpus Christi salvaged last weekend's series at SLU with a 4-1 victory in game three.

In the game, sophomore Monee Montilla went yard for the solo home run. Freshman Crystal Davila then hit her first ever collegiate triple, the team's first this year.

Junior Kimane Rogron batted .500 over the series and now leads the team in with a .329 batting average on the season. She also leads the team in hits (27) and runs (11).

Junior Primrose Aholelei threw all seven innings in game three and struck out nine in the process. It earned Aholelei her 10th win of the season, who has thrown a complete-game in six of her last seven appearances in the circle.

Aholelei leads the Southland in innings pitched (107.0) and wins (10) while ranking second in batters struck out (92), third in ERA (2.09) and sixth in opposing batting average (.234). Sydney Hoyt ranks first in saves at three while Paolina Baez ranks third in walks (17) and ninth in on-base percentage (.431).

With the 14-13 record, the Islanders have not possessed a losing record yet this season.

Nicholls (18-13, 5-4 SLC) has already played three conference series and won 2-1 over UIW and A&M-Commerce. The Colonels recently played Northwestern State and won game three with a walk-off 4-3 win in the eighth inning. Erin Krause leads the league with a .427 batting average while Melise Gossen ranks first in slugging (.686).

The Islanders won last year's series against the Colonels on the road, with 16-0 and 10-2 wins in games one and two. The last meeting between the teams was at the 2022 SLC tournament which A&M-Corpus Christi won 7-2 for the program's first tournament win since 2012.
