Men’s Basketball Duo Earns All-Academic First-Team Honors, Mushila Named Student-Athlete of the Year

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The accolades kept coming for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program as senior Isaac Mushila was tabbed the Southland Conference Student-Athlete on of the Year and on the All-Academic First-Team alongside senior Jalen Jackson.
 
It marked the first time in program history that the Islanders landed a pair on the SLC All-Academic First-Team. Mushila also became the program's first-ever SLC Student-Athlete of the Year winner.
 
Mushila, from Lubumbashi, Congo, was an All-Conference First-Team honoree. He led the league and ranked top-25 in the country in rebounding with 9.9 per outing. Mushila nearly averaged a double-double as he scored 14.5 points per game.
 
The psychology major broke the school record for double-doubles in a season with 14. He led the team in field goal percentage with a .375 and also shot .835 from the free throw line.
 
Jackson, a San Antonio, Texas native, stood out as the SLC Tournament MVP. He went on to score a career-high 22 points in the NCAA Tournament First Four to guide A&M-Corpus Christi to its first-ever NCAA Tournament win.
 
The communication major tallied 11 double-figure scoring games on the year including in three of the last four games.
 
The requirements to be eligible for SLC All-Academic was to carry a minimum 3.0 grade point average for at least one full academic year prior to this season occurring and participating in at least 50 percent of the team's games this season.
