WACO, Texas -
Daniel Armstrong claimed a gold medal in the men's 400m hurdles, highlighting the first day of the Clyde Hart Classic at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium Friday.
"It was a nice win by Armstrong in the 400m hurdles," said head coach Brent Ericksen. "He ran really strong over the first five and held on for the win.
Armstrong, a senior, ran a mark of 52.08s to edge out second place, a runner from Michigan State, by 0.03s for the top podium finish. The mark was just shy of his personal best by a little over a second.
Graduate student
Sean Majors jumped 7.11m in the men's long jump to raise his season best and move up to fourth all-time for the Islanders. He had a mark of 7.01m after the UTSA Invitational for the seventh-best mark in the event.
Freshman
Khiah Lara-Turner ran her was to a season-best time of 25.09s to better her mark by 0.62s to lead A&M-Corpus Christi in the women's 200m dash.
Ericksen continued on to say, "We had some nice personal records in the 200m with Khiah dropping the most time."
Faith Bett, a classmate of Majors, competed in the women's 1500m run, finishing fifth with a mark of 4:38.28. It was the first time she has run it for the outdoor season through two meets.
Sophomore
Logan Rickey finished best for the men in the 1500m run with a time of 4:08.63, a personal record of four seconds.
A&M-Corpus Christi returns for the second day Saturday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. with field events and 2:30 p.m. on the track.
