PHOENIX, Ariz. – After dropping 5-0 to a nationally ranked GCU, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team took on an undefeated UC Davis and won the 3-2 battle to split day one of three in Arizona.
Although #7 GCU (9-4) snapped A&M-Corpus Christi's (10-5) seven-match winning streak, the Islanders bounced back to clinch a 3-2 decision over a previously unbeaten UC Davis (9-1). It was the first-ever meeting between A&M-Corpus Christi and UC Davis.

Tori Johnson notched an opening set-win over GCU at flight three but was beat out in three. Though, the pair regrouped and topped UC Davis 21-17 and 22-20 to give A&M-Corpus Christi its first point of the match.

Kristin Bobay gritted out a 27-25 set-one victory over the Aggies before closing out the straight-set win with a 21-14 score in the second set for a 2-1 Islanders advantage.
UC Davis evened the playing field once more with a point on court four, but a grueling 29-27 opening set at flight five ended in sophomore
Shea Slusser and senior
Ashlyn Power's favor to go up a set in the deciding game. The pair then closed out a 21-17 win in set two to clinch the match for the Islanders.
Four of A&M-Corpus Christi's five losses this season have come against nationally ranked opponents.
The Islanders will head to Tucson next to compete in the Arizona Invitational where they will face #17 Arizona and Cal Poly, who is receiving votes in the AVCA Poll, next on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. The Islanders will be going for their first-ever win over a ranked opponent.
