CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
Dennis Kipngeno highlighted Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's postseason awards for track and field after the SLC Indoor Championships, being named the Men's Outstanding Running Events Performer.
"Dennis did an incredible job at conference and is well deserving of the Outstanding Running Events award," said head coach Brent Ericksen. "He followed up his individual title in cross country with three titles indoors. It wasn't just winning his individual events, the 5K and 3K, but leading the distance medley relay to the conference title with a 4:06 mile anchor leg."
Kipngeno, a senior, highlighted the meet with three gold medals, two individual and one relay, over the course of two days earning him three SLC First-Team honors. The first day saw the Nakuru, Kenya native win the men's 5,000m run before assisting the distance medley relay to the Islanders' second top performance of the day. Kipngeno followed up with a strong second day with a first-place mark in the 3,000m run.
Joining Kipngeno on the SLC First-Team in the distance medley relay is sophomore
Kelvin Kimaiyo, graduate student
Sean Majors, and junior
Enock Kimutai. This marks the first season on the Island for Majors and Kimutai, both transfers for the 2023 campaign. The Relay broke the program record by just over six seconds at a 9:54.71 time.
Kimaiyo earned SLC Third-Team honors twice in the men's 5,000m and 3,000m runs on the first and second day respectively. He is recognized on the First-Team Distance Medley Relay as well.
Graduate Student
Faith Bett earned SLC Third-Team recognition in the women's 800m dash with a 2:14.39 mark. Bett's time broke the previous school record with the mark even after competing in the women's mile earlier that day.
"Faith was our big point producer for the women," continued Ericksen. "She really ran a great mile and came back to set the school record in the 800m to earn All-Conference honors."
Trpimir Siroki, a senior, earned the lone field events All-Conference honor with a Third-Team performance in the men's long jump at 7.26m. Just missing out on All-Conference honors was junior
Enoch Antwi who earned fourth in the long jump at 7.22m.
A&M-Corpus Christi is scheduled to kick off the outdoor season at the UTSA Invitational March 17-18 on Friday and Saturday in San Antonio, Texas.
