CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Heading into its fourth competition of the season, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's track and field program is splitting into two squads this weekend between the Jarvis Scott Open and FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Challenge, hosted by Texas Tech and FasTrak Athletix at Houston, respectively.
"As it's our last opportunity before conference, we're trying to give everybody that one last chance to improve their marks and improve their heats," said head coach Brent Ericksen. "I still feel like we're getting better. We're seeing it a little bit more in practice as well as they're getting after it."
This marks the second consecutive meet the Islanders bus up to Lubbock as the team looks to improve marks in the last meet of the regular season. At the last appearance, junior
Dennis Kipngeno claimed victory in the men's 3,000m run with a time of 4:21.50.
Kipngeno holds the third-best time in the conference in the 3,000m with sophomore
Kelvin Kimaiyo owning the fifth-fastest conference mark, both times coming with a win for each respective runner.
Senior
Trpimir Siroki owns the second-furthest mark in the long jump within the Southland at 7.45m. Siroki's 8.08s mark in the men's 60m hurdles holds the fourth-fastest time in the conference with teammate
Ke'Tavion Humber, a graduate student, in fifth at 8.11s.
Junior
Capri Wilson owns the tenth-best mark in the Southland in the 60m dash with a 7.73s time set at the Robert Platt Invitational. She ran her way to another top-10 time in the women's 200m dash at 25.17s set at the Texas Tech Open.
