Kipngeno's Second Individual Gold Highlights SLC Indoor Championships Day Two

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Dennis Kipngeno earned his second gold medal at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships to highlight the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track and field programs on Sunday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

"The men's distance really did a heck of a job this weekend," said head coach Brent Ericksen. "Enock Antwi did a great job in only his second meet of the season, scoring in both jump events. For the women, Faith [Bett] was all-conference and posted a new school record."

Kipngeno, a senior, won his second individual race of the Southland Conference Indoor Championships in the 3000m run with a mark of 8:21.23. Sophomore Kelvin Kimaiyo earned a third-place finish behind him with an 8:25.39 time for his third podium finish of the two days. Both were a part of the distance medley relay the day prior that set a program record.

Capri Wilson, a junior, fought her way to sixth place in the women's 60m dash at 7.67s. She followed up on the performance in seventh in the women's 200m dash, finishing with a mark of 24.84.

Tranasia Jones, a sophomore, earned another placing mark for the women's sprinters with seventh in the women's 400m dash at 56.85s.

Graduate student Faith Bett continued the success for the distance group with a 10th-place finish in the women's mile with a time of 5:10.24. Bett later went on to finish third in the women's 800m dash with a new school record mark of 2:14.39. Senior Riley Cowan finished fourth with a program top-10 mark of 2:16.43 for third all time.

Newcomer Enoch Antwi finished fifth in the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.62m to move up to third all-time in program history.

Senior Trpimir Siroki placed seventh in the men's 60m hurdles, crossing the line with a time of 8.19s.

A quartet of Jones, freshman Erial Fontenot, sophomore Yasmine Steele, and Cowan rounded out the day for the Islanders with a fifth-place performance in the women's 4x400m relay, a new season best.

The Islanders will look to see if anyone qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships before looking to the outdoor season.
