LAFAYETTE, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team lost the low-scoring battle with UL-Lafayette 2-0 in the weekend finale of the LSU/ULL Crossover.
The Islanders (7-6) would only reach base two times against ULL's (9-5) Karly Heath who threw for a complete-game no-hitter. Junior
Primrose Aholelei also remained in the circle for the entire game and would only give up two runs, though, it was enough for the Ragin Cajuns to walk away with the win.
ULL's runs came in the bottom of the first before Aholelei kept them scoreless for the remainder of the day. She struck out one batter and posted a three up, three down in the second.
Sophomore
Paolina Baez drew the walk in the top of the fifth as the Islanders' first baserunner of the day. Another wouldn't come until the top of the seventh when junior
Sidney Campion got hit by pitch to take first.
Campion would make it to second to get herself in scoring position in A&M-Corpus Christi's last chance, but the Islanders couldn't drive her in as ULL escaped with the 2-0 victory.
ULL has been receiving votes in the AP Poll and knocked off #14 LSU on Saturday 5-4.
Aholelei put in 15.0 innings of work over the weekend, including throwing two complete games. She struck out five batters and maintains a 2.75 ERA after the weekend.
The Islanders will return to Chapman Field for a midweek matchup with UTSA on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for their home opener before competing in their final tournament of the nonconference schedule at Arkansas next weekend.
