BATON ROUGE, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team heads to the Bayou to face a nationally ranked LSU team along with University of Louisiana-Lafayette in the LSU/ULL Crossover this weekend split between Baton Rouge and Lafayette.
The Islanders (7-2) are riding out its best start to a season since 2005 when the program began 9-0. Though, that record will be put the test when they face #14 LSU (11-0) and ULL (6-5) who has been receiving votes in the AP Poll.
The weekend will begin with a 6 p.m. pitch against the Tigers at Tiger Park on Friday. Saturday will include a 12 p.m. matchup with ULL followed by a 5 p.m. rematch with LSU. The Islanders will then head to Lafayette to close out its third tournament in as many weeks at 12 p.m. on Sunday against the Ragin Cajuns.

LSU will be the first of three Power-Five opponents that the Islanders face this season. A&M-Corpus Christi posted two wins over Power-Five opponents Baylor and Syracuse last year, though, they will be going for its first ever win over a ranked opponent.
Ahead of the challenge, the Islanders are hoping to take their momentum from their perfect 4-0 record last weekend in the I-35 Tournament. They defeated New Mexico State twice, UTSA 6-4 and Abilene Christian 6-5. A&M-Corpus Christi had not beaten ACU since 2018 but had now beaten them three times within 10 days as the late three-run home run by freshman
Crystal Davila capped the perfect weekend.
The Islanders also posted its second shutout of the season in the 1-0 decision over New Mexico State. It was also the second complete-game shutout thrown by junior
Primrose Aholelei.
Aholelei has emerged as the ace of A&M-Corpus Christi's pitching, having put in 33.1 innings of work and striking out 32 through it. With a 1.89 ERA, she has tacked on a 4-2 record in the circle so far this season to rank ninth nationally in victories. Her two shutouts rank her sixth nationally.
Senior
Quinn De Avila turns in the team's highest batting average at a .467, the third highest in the Southland. She is one of two Islanders with multiple home run hits this season, with senior
Gabriella Torres having hit three for a team-high 11 RBIs. Juniors

Kimane Rogron have hit over 10 each, with Hoyt recording 12 and Rogron having 13.
It will be just the fourth ever meeting between LSU and A&M-Corpus Christi, with the Tigers winning each previous. UL-Lafayette leads the all-time record 14-2 over A&M-Corpus Christi who will be going for its first win over the Ragin Cajuns since 2004 when the Islanders won both games of a doubleheader 2-1 and 3-0.
