MCALLEN, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team concluded the fall schedule with a victory against UTRGV, defeating the Vaqueros 4-2 after 18 holes at McAllen Country Club on Friday.
The teams played six players each, with the Islanders registering four wins to secure the victory. It is the second year in a row that the Islanders defeated UTRGV in a fall match-play tournament.
"Today was a great day for the team," said head coach
Pat Stephens. "Playing the match to end the fall season is something we will always try to do. UTRGV is a very strong team that we had to play our best to beat. I am proud of the effort of the entire team."
After UTRGV clinched the first point, freshman
Carla Puente Fernandez evened the field after finishing three up with two holes left to play. UTRGV went up again 2-1 in the head-to-head, but the remaining three Islanders got it down for the win.
Sophomores
Elsa Tornvall and
Lucia Ramirez both picked up wins after finishing five up and three up, respectively. Senior
Lucie Charbonnier solidified the 4-2 advantage after ending one up in her pairing.
