Soccer Rounds Out Regular Season on Senior Day

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Seven student-athletes were honored from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program prior to a 2-0 defeat to McNeese on Senior Day at Dugan Stadium on Sunday.

The Islanders held a special pregame Senior Day ceremony for Molly Arens, Reese Cross, Emma Herrera, Emily Levy, Maggie Murray, Jayden Rea and Kennedy Stelling.

A&M-Corpus Christi was the better team statistically than McNeese, but the Cowgirls were able to garner goals in the 62nd and 65th minute. The Islanders outshot McNeese 15-9.

"I couldn't be prouder of the team. The result didn't go our way but we outshot them, outplayed them but the goals went against the grain of the game. That's soccer, that happens," said head coach Craig Shaw. "They (the group of seniors) have changed the culture of this program. It's been brilliant to see the ladies come together and become a family and sisters. I really appreciate everything they've done for us."

Sophomore Mai-Lisa Atis registered four shots while freshman Aaliyah Ramadan fired a pair. Arens, Murray, Herrera, Rea, Cross, freshman Vanessa Wimbish, junior Emma Crump, graduate Olivia Hughes and junior Megan Guy also recorded shots.

Atis logged 90 minutes at center forward. Stelling also played 90 minutes as she got the start in net and made five saves.

A&M-Corpus Christi tallied a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Islanders will host the conference tournament beginning Wednesday, Nov. 7. Their seed and their opponent are yet to be determined.
